CZ says Bitcoin ‘dead’ calls have been the best time to buy as BTC tests $81,000

TL;DR

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao said on Friday that every time people declared Bitcoin dead in the past, it turned out to be the best time to buy. His comment lands as BTC holds just above $81,000 after heavy ETF outflows, with the $80,000 level and next week's Fed decision in focus.

Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao weighed in on Bitcoin sentiment on Friday, saying that every time people declared Bitcoin “dead” in the past, it was the best time to buy. The remark was shared by Watcher.Guru and comes during a nervous week for the market.

The context: a shaky week for BTC

Bitcoin traded around $81,800 on Friday, down about 0.8% over 24 hours, according to Yahoo Finance. Buyers defended the $81,000 area twice in two days, with lows near $80,940 on Thursday and $81,118 on Friday.

Demand from US spot Bitcoin ETFs turned sharply on Thursday. TradingView News reported $635.6 million in net outflows that day, led by BlackRock’s IBIT, Fidelity’s FBTC and Ark’s ARKB. That wiped out a large part of the roughly $1.075 billion that came in from Monday to Wednesday.

Macro pressure is also heavy. Brent crude has been trading above $110 a barrel, and traders are watching the Federal Reserve decision on October 28.

Why CZ’s comment resonates

CZ’s point is about crowd psychology: when headlines call an asset finished, a lot of the selling has often already happened. He did not give a price target or a timeline, and the comment is an opinion, not a forecast.

It was not his only post of the week. On Friday he also argued that fears of AI breaking Bitcoin’s cryptography are misplaced, while warning that AI is making phishing and social engineering more dangerous for regular users.
