Privacy focused Ethereum layer 2 Aztec said tokenholders approved its Alpha V6 upgrade on 22 October and that the network entered an execution delay, though its governance dashboard still showed voting open until 24 October. The upgrade moves Aztec to a new rollup and requires apps to recompile contracts with new addresses.
Aztec’s next network version has cleared a key vote, though not every screen agrees yet. The privacy focused Ethereum layer 2 said on 22 October that tokenholders approved its Alpha V6 upgrade and that “the network now enters an execution delay.”
A timing mismatch
The governance dashboard Aztec linked still showed the proposal as active, with voting scheduled to end on 24 October and execution available from 26 October, according to The Defiant. The dashboard displayed 100% support among votes cast. The discrepancy matters because approval alone does not switch anything on. Under Aztec’s governance process, a passed proposal must wait out a delay and then be executed in an eligible window. Aztec told users to wait for an official launch date.
What V6 changes
The upgrade would move Aztec to a new rollup, speed up messages from Ethereum and change rewards for network operators. It also brings a migration. Application contracts must be recompiled and their addresses will change, and the proposal funds continued operation of V5 for about 30 days so users and developers have time to move.
Why it matters
Aztec is one of the most closely watched privacy projects in the Ethereum ecosystem, aiming to let users and apps keep transaction details private while settling on Ethereum. Privacy is drawing more attention as regulators debate surveillance and as stablecoin issuers and banks test confidential transfers. A version change that moves contracts to new addresses is also a classic moment for phishing, as scammers pose as migration tools.
What it means for traders
- Wait for official instructions: only use migration links from Aztec’s own channels.
- Expect new addresses: verify app contract addresses after the switch.
