Nasdaq-listed Next Technology says its board has authorized it to sell or use as collateral its roughly 5,833 BTC, citing exchange security incidents such as the Binance hack and quantum computing risk. No sale, amount or date has been confirmed.

Bitcoin TradeReviewed News Desk

Bitcoin treasury company Next Technology, listed on Nasdaq, has received board approval to sell its bitcoin holdings or use them as collateral, according to DiarioBitcoin, which cites the company’s statement as reported by CoinGape. The firm holds about 5,833 BTC.

What the board approved

The board unanimously approved the option to sell or pledge the BTC, in one or more tranches. The company says reducing or reorganizing the position is meant to limit risk and improve liquidity. It has not said how much it could move, at what price, or when. CEO Weihong Liu will decide how to proceed. In short, this is an authorization, not a completed sale.

Why: exchange hacks and quantum risk

The board said it reviewed security incidents at exchanges, including the Binance hack, along with other attacks and platform vulnerabilities. According to the CoinGape report, Next Technology does not hold its BTC through Binance. Binance reported on October 29 a security incident with an estimated $6.3 billion impact on customer assets (see our Bitcoin after the Binance hack coverage). The company also listed quantum computing among the technological threats it considered, without giving specific scenarios or a timeline.

How big is the position

CoinDesk valued the holding at around $449 million in its coverage, and CoinGape ranks Next Technology as the 18th largest public bitcoin treasury company, behind Galaxy Digital and ahead of Gemini. OKX spot data showed BTC near $77,570 at 17:00 CET, roughly flat on the day.
