Chainlink partners with LG CNS to expand Korean won stablecoins

24 Oct 2026

TL;DR

Chainlink and LG CNS, the IT arm of LG Group, will work on the utility and distribution of Korean won stablecoins and integrate Chainlink's cross-chain and data tools into LG CNS platforms for Korean institutions. South Korea is still drafting the Digital Asset Basic Act.

Chainlink has landed a partner at the heart of South Korea’s corporate establishment. The oracle network announced a strategic partnership with LG CNS, the AI transformation and IT services arm of LG Group, to build infrastructure for South Korea’s $68 billion crypto market.

What the partnership covers

The two companies said they will focus on expanding the utility and distribution of Korean won stablecoins, a segment with more than 11 million eligible users according to the announcement. LG CNS will also integrate Chainlink’s cross-chain, data and orchestration infrastructure into its digital asset platform solutions for Korean institutions, and both will contribute to the country’s digital asset framework.

“Korea’s financial infrastructure is entering the tokenization era,” said Hongkeun Kim, head of the digital business division at LG CNS, adding that the goal is to accelerate the growth of the tokenized securities market through secure interoperability and real-world data.

Why LG CNS matters

LG Group is one of South Korea’s largest conglomerates, with around 186 trillion won ($140.5 billion) in assets across 63 affiliates. LG CNS is also the lead contractor for the Bank of Korea’s digital currency initiative, Project Hangang. That gives Chainlink a route into both private and public sector projects.

Legal framework still pending

South Korea currently has no clear legal basis for issuing and trading won linked stablecoins commercially. Lawmakers are working on the Digital Asset Basic Act, which would set rules for them. Separately, The Block reported this week that the government plans to amend its foreign exchange law to treat stablecoins as payment instruments. Korean banks, fintechs and exchanges are positioning for a market that could open once the rules pass.
