26 Oct 2026

TL;DR

Coinbase opened an incident on Monday, October 26 saying some users may be unable to convert Brazilian reais (BRL) to buy or sell crypto. The exchange says its team is working on a fix and that customer funds are safe. No timeline for a resolution was given at the time of writing.

Exchanges TradeReviewed News Desk

Coinbase is investigating a problem that stops some customers from converting Brazilian reais (BRL) into crypto and back. The exchange posted the incident, titled “Site Performance – Converts”, on its official status page at 14:46 UTC on Monday, October 26, 2026. The headline was also flagged minutes later by the markets wire Walter Bloomberg.

What Coinbase said

The status update reads: “Some users may currently be unable to convert BRL to buy/sell crypto on Coinbase. Our team is working on this issue and will provide an update shortly. Your funds are safe.” The incident was listed as “investigating” with no estimated time to resolution, and Coinbase did not say how many users are affected or what caused the problem.

The issue is limited to BRL conversions according to the notice. Coinbase did not report a wider outage of trading, deposits or withdrawals in other currencies.

Other open incidents on the status page

The BRL problem is not the only open item. Coinbase is also still reporting delayed Interac e-Transfer withdrawals for Canadian users, which it attributes to an ongoing Interac issue and says it is waiting on a fix from its payment processing partner. Separate notices flag delayed sends and receives on the TON network, and the scheduled conversion of GYEN balances to USDC between October 26 and 30 after the stablecoin’s issuer began winding it down.

What it means for traders

For Brazilian users the practical impact is simple: if you need to buy or sell with reais right now, a Coinbase conversion may fail until the fix lands. Coinbase stresses that balances are not at risk, so there is no reason to panic, but traders who rely on a single fiat on-ramp can get stuck during busy market hours.

It is good practice to keep at least one backup venue verified. Our side-by-side exchange comparison shows fees, fiat options and features, and our tested reviews of BingX and OKX explain how each handles deposits and withdrawals. The timing also matters for Coinbase shareholders, as the company is due to report quarterly earnings this week, as covered in our crypto week-ahead preview. You can read how we score exchanges on our testing methodology page.

We will update this story when Coinbase posts a resolution.
