Ethereum funds carry the heavier October damage
While most of the attention this week went to Bitcoin ETF swings, the bigger October story sits with Ethereum. According to Decrypt, US spot Ethereum ETFs took in a small $4.4 million on Friday but lost about $221 million over the week, leaving them down roughly $1.18 billion for the month. Since launching in July 2024, Ethereum funds have gathered about $12.7 billion in cumulative net inflows.
Solana ETFs saw no net flows on Friday after shedding $8.9 million on Thursday, and they are down about $68 million in October.
Bitcoin ETFs: a green week, a red month
Spot Bitcoin ETFs shed $137.9 million on Friday, their second straight day of outflows. The two-day slide totaled about $773.5 million and ate into a $1.07 billion inflow run from Monday through Wednesday. Even so, the funds finished the week up roughly $301 million, which ends a two-week losing streak.
October remains negative at about $314 million. The funds briefly turned positive for the month midweek before Thursday’s $635.6 million exit, the largest of October, flipped them back. Cumulative net inflows stand at $57.6 billion, with $100.2 billion in total net assets.
Prices slide into the weekend
Decrypt, citing CoinGecko, reported Bitcoin down 1.1% over 24 hours to about $80,490 on Saturday and 1.2% lower on the week. Ethereum fell 2.6% to roughly $2,344 and Solana dropped 2.8% to about $101, while total crypto market cap slipped 1.2% to $2.79 trillion. The weakness followed a midweek selloff in global markets, when oil climbed above $111 a barrel and AI stocks slid.
Prediction market traders turned more cautious too. On Myriad, the odds of Bitcoin dropping to $77,500 before month end rose to 43% from 32% a day earlier, while the odds of BTC topping $87,500 fell to 10% from 17%. Ethereum’s odds of hitting $3,000 before $1,500 held at 61.3%.
What it means for traders
- ETH sentiment is the weak spot. A $1.18 billion monthly outflow shows institutional demand for ETH exposure is cooling faster than for BTC. Watch whether Monday’s flow data confirms or reverses that trend.
- Weekly vs monthly picture. Bitcoin’s weekly gain came from a strong early-week run, not steady buying. Flows have reversed quickly within single weeks, so avoid reading one positive week as a trend change.
- Size positions for volatility. With BTC near $80,000 and macro headlines driving risk assets, keep leverage modest. Our exchange comparison shows fees and margin rules, and how we test explains our ranking, where BingX and OKX currently lead.
