Most American crypto investors want more crypto in their portfolios, but many feel that wealth built in digital assets still carries a social discount. That is the main finding of a survey commissioned by OKX and reported by BeInCrypto.
Who was asked
Pollfish ran the survey for OKX between October 14 and 18. It polled 1,932 crypto investors: 1,000 in the US and the rest in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland.
Americans plan to buy more
In the US, 55% of respondents expect to increase their crypto allocation over the next five years, including 22% who plan a significant increase. In the four European countries combined, 47% expect an increase and 13% a significant one. The gap is wider among younger investors: 70% of Americans under 45 expect to raise their crypto share, against 57% in Europe.
Older Americans are much more sceptical. Among US Boomers, 65% say crypto is not at all important to building generational wealth, compared with 44% in Europe. Roshan Robert, CEO of OKX US, said younger investors are leading the shift and that crypto is becoming part of how a new generation thinks about building wealth.
A respect gap and more secrecy
42% of US respondents said crypto wealth earns less respect than an equal stock portfolio, versus 28% in Europe. Only 34% of investors on both sides of the Atlantic consider crypto wealth as legitimate as wealth built in stocks or real estate. Americans are also more private: just 7% tell close friends their approximate portfolio value (15% in Europe), and 24% would hide a sudden fortune to keep their relationships unchanged, twice the European rate of 12%.
What it means for traders
The survey points to steady demand from younger investors, which matters for long-term flows into exchanges and crypto products. Keep in mind that the poll was commissioned by an exchange and measures intentions, not actual purchases.
