Bitcoin reclaims $81,000 on the eve of the Fed decision as overhead supply looms

27 Oct 2026

TL;DR

Bitcoin climbed back above $81,000 late on Tuesday, trading around $81,170 on OKX after a 24-hour range of $79,505 to $81,298. The move puts BTC back inside a zone where Bitfinex estimates about 874,000 BTC changed hands, just hours before Wednesday's Fed decision.

Bitcoin has reclaimed $81,000. Watcher.Guru flagged the move at 21:34 UTC on Tuesday, and minutes later BTC/USDT was trading at about $81,174 on OKX, according to the exchange’s public market data. That is roughly 1.3% above the 24-hour open of $80,136, with a 24-hour low of $79,505 and a high of $81,298.

Back above the level it lost

The bounce matters because $81,000 is not a random round number. Earlier this week Bitcoin slipped below support near $81,300 and spent Monday and much of Tuesday hovering around $80,000, briefly dipping under it. Reclaiming $81,000 turns that area from resistance back into a level bulls now need to hold on a closing basis.

It also puts price straight into a crowded zone. In its latest weekly report, Bitfinex Alpha estimated that about 874,000 BTC changed hands between $81,000 and $82,500. Holders who bought in that range and have been underwater may use any recovery to exit at break-even, which can slow a rally. We covered that analysis in our earlier story.

The Fed is the next catalyst

The timing is tight. The Federal Reserve announces its rate decision on Wednesday, October 28. Bitfinex noted that futures markets price roughly a 90% chance that the Fed holds rates, so traders are likely to focus on guidance about December rather than the decision itself. A hawkish tone could push BTC back toward $80,000, while a softer message could give buyers the push needed to test the $82,500 top of the supply band.

Flows have also turned a little friendlier. US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in about $110 million on Monday after roughly $774 million left over the prior two sessions, Cointelegraph reported, although October as a whole remains in net outflows.
