Exchanges TradeReviewed News Desk

Holding a leveraged long on crypto perpetual futures cost money every single day in October, and how much depended a lot on the exchange. We pulled the full funding rate history of the BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP and DOGE USDT perpetuals on BingX, OKX, Bitget, KuCoin, Gate and Hyperliquid for the 30 days to 31 October 2026 from their public APIs and added up every settlement. A $10,000 BTC long paid $33.75 in funding on Gate, $45.74 on OKX and $68.93 on BingX over the month. The same numbers are what a $10,000 short collected.
Key findings
- Funding was positive almost all month. On every exchange and every coin we checked, longs paid shorts in total over the 30 days. The 30-day sum ranged from 0.16% to 0.72% of the position, which is roughly 1.9% to 8.8% a year if it continued.
- Gate was the cheapest place to hold a long on all five coins (BTC $33.75, ETH $26.99, SOL $15.81, XRP $30.83, DOGE $34.35 per $10,000). OKX was second cheapest on most coins.
- Hyperliquid and BingX had the highest funding. Average 30-day cost per $10,000 across the five coins: Gate $28, OKX $38, KuCoin $44, Bitget $49, Hyperliquid $66, BingX $67. Most CEX settlements sat at the standard 0.01% per 8 hours, and BingX settled at that level more consistently, with fewer negative periods (BTC 1%, DOGE 1%) than OKX or Gate.
- For shorts and cash-and-carry traders it is the other way round. Higher positive funding means a short (or a spot long hedged with a perp short) collected more: about $72 per $10,000 on Hyperliquid DOGE and $71 on BingX DOGE in 30 days, before trading fees.
- Altcoins flipped negative more often. On OKX, 30% of XRP and 26% of SOL settlements were negative (shorts paid longs), versus 10% for BTC. The single most negative 8-hour rate in the sample was -0.0254% on OKX SOL.
- Last 7 days (24 to 31 October, Binance hack fears and BTC under $80,000): BTC funding stayed positive everywhere, between 0.144% and 0.193% for the week, so leveraged longs did not capitulate on funding.

What funding means for your trade
- Funding is paid between traders, not to the exchange. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs. It is charged on the full position size, not on your margin, so with 10x leverage a 0.69% monthly funding bill is about 6.9% of your margin.
- Settlement times differ. The CEXs here settled every 8 hours for these contracts (90 settlements in 30 days); Hyperliquid settles every hour (720 settlements), with a smaller rate each time.
- Short trades barely notice it, long holds do. A long held for a few hours pays one settlement at most. A long held for a month paid $16 to $72 per $10,000 in this sample.
- Check the next funding rate before you open. Every exchange shows the current and predicted rate on the contract page. Our futures fee calculator and liquidation calculator help with the rest, and crypto futures for beginners explains the basics.
Funding is only one cost. Compare trading fees on the lowest fee crypto exchanges and our withdrawal fee data. In our overall ranking BingX is number 1 and OKX number 2. Method
Data pulled on 2026-10-31 07:36 UTC from the public funding rate history endpoints of OKX (funding-rate-history, realized rate), Bitget (history-fund-rate, USDT-FUTURES), BingX (swap v2 fundingRate), KuCoin Futures (contract funding-rates), Gate (futures usdt funding_rate) and Hyperliquid (info fundingHistory). Window: settlements from 1 October 2026 08:00 UTC to 31 October 2026 (CEX last settlement 00:00 UTC, Hyperliquid 07:00 UTC). Contracts: USDT-margined BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP and DOGE perpetuals. We summed all settled rates; cost per $10,000 = sum x 10,000, assuming a constant position size. Binance and Bybit public APIs were not reachable from our data server’s location, so they are not included. You may cite these figures with a link to this page.
