The stories that mattered for crypto traders on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Markets
- Bitcoin briefly loses $80,000 as longs get flushed. A sharp Saturday selloff pushed BTC below $80,000, ether under $2,350, Solana under $100 and XRP under $1.30, with more than $200 million of leveraged longs liquidated within an hour, according to Watcher.Guru. CoinDesk tied the weekend pressure to renewed Middle East worries after US evacuations in the region. (Watcher.Guru, CoinDesk; our full story)
- 80% of the top tokens are down on the week. Bitcoin fell to about $79,700 after another failed October rebound, and a Bitunix report cited by BeInCrypto says roughly 80% of the 300 largest tokens lost value in the week to October 23. The Fed meeting on October 27-28 and core PCE data on October 29 are the next big tests. (BeInCrypto; our full story)
- Spot bitcoin ETFs lose $773 million in two days. US spot bitcoin ETFs reported $137.9 million of net outflows on October 23 after $635.5 million the day before. Weekly flows are still positive at about $228 million. (U.Today; our full story)

Business and exchanges
- Strategy and Strive juggle dividends and bitcoin buys. Perpetual preferred stock has funded purchases of about 136,000 BTC since early 2025, per Fidelity Digital Assets, but rising dividend bills and buybacks now compete with new bitcoin buying, analysts told CoinDesk. (CoinDesk; our full story)
- Kraken drops its Monero questionnaires. Co-CEO Arjun Sethi said XMR buyers no longer need to answer emails about their employers and planned use, but rolling 30-day limits of $3,500 in deposits and $1,500 in withdrawals for individuals stay in place. (CryptoSlate; our full story)
Security and tech
- Bitcoin Core speeds up security fixes. A policy change merged on October 22 lets developers backport fixes for easily rediscovered bugs to every maintained release and publish advisories right away. A network snapshot shows 43.6% of surveyed Core peers already run end-of-life versions. (CryptoSlate; our full story)
What it means for traders
- Leverage is the weak spot: with big long clusters sitting above the price and $80,000 acting as the line in the sand, liquidation cascades can move fast on thin weekend books. Size positions so a wick does not take you out, and compare liquidation and funding rules in our exchange comparison, including BingX and OKX.
- Next week is macro week: the Fed decision on October 28 and PCE data on October 29 can swing ETF flows either way.
- Keep your software and custody tidy: the Bitcoin Core change is a reminder to run supported versions, and our testing method explains how we look at exchange security. This is not financial advice.
