The Next Technology Holding bitcoin sale is now formally on the table. In a press release dated October 30, the Nasdaq-listed company (NXTT) said its board unanimously approved the sale or pledging of its bitcoin holdings “in one or more tranches”. As of October 30 the company held approximately 5,833 BTC, worth roughly $450 million at a BTC price near $77,400.
Why the board moved
NXTT says the decision followed its review of the security incident recently reported by Binance. The board also pointed to international hacker attacks, exchange security vulnerabilities and emerging threats, “including but not limited to the potential cryptographic impact of quantum computing”, as reasons custody and market risk on its bitcoin has increased. The company stresses that none of its bitcoin is held on or through Binance.
The stated aims are to reduce risk exposure and enhance liquidity. The company says it remains focused on its “AI plus digital assets” strategy.
How a sale could happen
The resolutions allow three routes:
- direct sales on crypto exchanges,
- block trades with specific buyers,
- pledging bitcoin as collateral for financing.
The chief executive decides timing, price, volume and tranche schedule. The company adds that there is no assurance any sale or pledge will be completed.
A treasury far larger than the company
CoinDesk calculates that NXTT closed Friday at $5.30, giving its roughly 1.47 million shares a market value of about $7.8 million, while the reported bitcoin would be worth more than 50 times that. Most of the coins came from a March 2025 deal for 5,000 BTC, recorded at about $31,600 per coin. CoinDesk also notes the filings do not give wallet addresses that would let investors verify the balance independently.
The news lands in a nervous week. Binance is still working through the aftermath of its hack, with withdrawals due to reopen on Sunday; see our latest Binance recovery update.
What it means for traders
- Supply overhang, not a done deal. 5,833 BTC is meaningful but not large against daily spot volume. Block trades or a loan would not hit the order book the way exchange sales would.
- Watch the treasury narrative. A listed company citing hack and quantum risk to cut BTC exposure is the opposite of the usual treasury story. If others follow, it would matter more than this single holder.
- Verification gap. Without published addresses, on-chain trackers cannot confirm when, or whether, coins move.
