Short answer: open Ledger Live, choose Receive for the coin, verify the address on the Ledger screen, then paste it into the withdrawal page on your exchange and select the same network. Send a small test amount first. When it arrives, send the rest.
Before you start
- Set up your hardware wallet and write down the recovery phrase on paper. Never type it into a phone or computer. Our guide what is a crypto wallet explains why.
- Install the app for the coin on the device (in Ledger Live this is under My Ledger).
- Make sure your exchange account is verified. OKX says identity verification is required for withdrawals, and BingX sets withdrawal limits by verification level.
Step 1: get your receive address
- Ledger: in Ledger Live, open Receive, pick the account (for example Bitcoin or Ethereum), then confirm on the device that the address on the screen matches the one in the app. Ledger asks you to verify on the device so malware cannot swap the address.
- SafePal: open the SafePal app, select the coin, tap Receive and confirm on the device.
- Copy the address. Note which network it is on: Bitcoin mainnet, Ethereum (ERC20), BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) and so on.
Step 2: withdraw from BingX
- Log in, go to Assets, then Withdraw.
- Choose the coin and On-Chain Withdrawal.
- Paste your wallet address and select the network that matches your wallet.
- Enter the amount and the account to withdraw from, check the fee and the amount that will arrive, then confirm.
BingX says on chain arrival usually takes about 10 to 120 minutes, and some withdrawals go through a manual review. You can also save the address in the BingX address book and use withdrawal whitelisting.
Step 3 (alternative): withdraw from OKX
- Open OKX, go to Assets or Portfolio and select Withdraw.
- Pick the coin, select an on chain destination and the network.
- Paste the address, enter the amount, choose Funding or Trading account and check the network fee.
- Complete 2FA and confirm. Status goes from Requested to Pending, Withdrawing and Completed.
Coins such as XRP need a tag (memo) as well. Ledger addresses for XRP do not need one, but if an exchange asks for it, read the prompt carefully.
EU users: self hosted wallet checks
Under the EU Transfer of Funds Regulation (2023/1113), exchanges in the EU may ask you to confirm that a self hosted wallet belongs to you, especially above 1,000 EUR. Follow the prompt in the app; it is normal.
Step 4: test, then send the rest
Send a small amount first, wait until it shows in Ledger Live or SafePal, then send the remainder. Copy and paste the address, never type it by hand, and check the first and last characters.
The most common mistakes
- Wrong network: sending on a network your wallet account does not watch. Both OKX and BingX warn that this can lose funds. For USDT, see which USDT network to use.
- Fake support: Ledger and SafePal will never ask for your recovery phrase.
- Fake apps: download Ledger Live only from ledger.com.
Which hardware wallet?
Ledger is the best known brand with the widest coin support in Ledger Live. SafePal is a lower cost option with an air gapped QR design on the S1. See Ledger wallets or see SafePal S1. If you still need an exchange, our ranking puts BingX first and OKX second; both are MiCA licensed in the EU (BingX via BingX EU for EEA users, OKX via OKX Europe).
Checked on 25 October 2026. Fees change often, so always check the fee screen before you confirm.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to move crypto from an exchange to Ledger?
It depends on the network. BingX says on chain withdrawals usually arrive in about 10 to 120 minutes, and some withdrawals are reviewed manually.
Do I pay a fee to withdraw to Ledger?
Yes, the exchange charges a withdrawal or network fee that depends on the coin and network. It is shown on the withdrawal screen before you confirm.
What happens if I pick the wrong network?
Funds can be lost or need a recovery process. Always match the network on the exchange with the network of your wallet address.
Do I need my recovery phrase to receive crypto?
No. You only need the receive address. Never share the recovery phrase with anyone.
