Exchanges TradeReviewed News Desk

In the week of the record Binance hack, Binance’s tracked wallets lost 8,214 BTC and $5.3 billion in stablecoins, while BTC balances rose on OKX, Bybit, Bitget and Bitfinex. We pulled the on-chain wallet balances that DefiLlama tracks for 16 centralized exchanges and compared 25 October with 1 November 2026, the day Binance said withdrawals would reopen. Because we compare coin amounts, not dollar values, the numbers below show coins moving, not the price drop.
Key findings
- Binance: -8,214 BTC and -5.3B stablecoins in 7 days. Most of it happened in one day: from 29 to 30 October, BTC in Binance’s tracked wallets fell from 661,044 to 645,046 (-15,999 BTC) and stablecoins from $49.55B to $46.08B (-3.47B). That is the window of the hack that the FBI has attributed to North Korea’s TraderTraitor group; reports put the stolen bitcoin at 18,270 BTC. On-chain balances alone cannot separate stolen funds, user withdrawals and internal moves.
- Binance is still by far the biggest. Even after the drop it held about $135B in tracked assets and 645,048 BTC on 1 November, more BTC than the other 15 exchanges in our sample combined (624,028 BTC).
- BTC moved to other big exchanges. OKX gained +4,775 BTC in 7 days, Bybit +3,959, Bitget +2,261 and Bitfinex +1,805. Together, the exchanges that gained BTC added about 13,981 BTC (roughly $1.09B at $77,793). We cannot tell from this data how much came directly from Binance users.
- Stablecoins fell almost everywhere. 10 of 16 exchanges held fewer stablecoins on 1 November than a week earlier. Outside Binance the drop was about $1,092M, led by Bitget (-377M), Bybit (-263M) and OKX (-204M). That fits traders using stablecoins to buy the dip or moving them to self-custody after the Tether and Circle freezes, but the data cannot prove the reason.
- Deribit lost BTC too (-2,697 BTC in 7 days), while its stablecoins rose (+169M), a typical pattern when options traders swap BTC collateral for dollars in a falling market.
- Over the full month (1 October to 1 November), Binance stablecoins fell -6.4B and OKX -733M, while OKX (+8,915), Bitstamp (+13,172) and Bitfinex (+7,290) gained the most BTC.

Tracked assets = all tokens in the wallets DefiLlama tracks for the exchange, in USD on 1 November 00:00 UTC. BTC and stablecoin columns are coin amounts. Stablecoins = USDT, USDC, FDUSD, USDe, DAI, PYUSD, RLUSD, USD1 and TUSD.
What this means for you
- Reserve data shows coins, not debts. Wallet balances say what an exchange holds, not what it owes customers. A full Proof of Reserves also checks liabilities with a Merkle tree you can verify yourself. Read how Proof of Reserves works.
- Coverage differs a lot. DefiLlama only counts addresses an exchange has published. Smaller numbers often mean fewer published wallets, not a smaller or weaker exchange. BingX, for example, has only a small set of tracked wallets here ($563M) and publishes its own Proof of Reserves.
- Do not keep more on any exchange than you trade with. If you are worried after this week, follow our Binance safety checklist, see what to do if your exchange is hacked and how to move crypto to a hardware wallet.
- Looking for another exchange? Our Binance alternatives page and fee comparison rank exchanges on fees, safety and licences. In our overall ranking BingX is number 1 and OKX number 2. EU users should also check MiCA-licensed exchanges.
Method
Data pulled on 2026-11-01 07:40 UTC from the DefiLlama public API (api.llama.fi/protocol/<exchange>, CEX category), which sums on-chain balances of wallet addresses published by each exchange. We used the daily 00:00 UTC snapshots of 1 October, 25 October and 1 November 2026 and compared token amounts, so price changes do not affect the BTC and stablecoin columns. BTC includes BTC on the Bitcoin chain as reported by DefiLlama; wrapped versions are not added. USD value of BTC changes uses the CoinGecko BTC price at fetch time ($77,793). Exchanges in the sample: Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitfinex, Gate, Bitget, Gemini, Bitstamp, MEXC, KuCoin, Crypto.com, HTX, BingX, Bitvavo, SwissBorg and Deribit. Single-day glitches in DefiLlama totals (for example OKX on 27 October) were not used. You may cite these figures with a link to this page.
Not financial advice. On-chain reserve data has gaps and cannot show an exchange’s liabilities. Some links on TradeReviewed are referral links; they do not change our rankings.
